1.
Why is my pool cloudy?
There
can be several reasons why your water is cloudy.
The main reasons are low sanitizer level, high
pH level, inadequate circulation or filtration,
not running the filtration equipment all day or
leaving the pool covered after adding an adjustment
of water balance chemical or shock.
2.
Is water balance something I really need to be
concerned with in my pool?
YES!
Water balance has 3 main factors, pH, Total Alkalinity
and Calcium Hardness. Improper water balance can
lead to skin/eye irritation, equipment corrosion
and stain & scaling of pool surfaces and equipment.
Manufacturers may not warrant their product (liners,
heaters) if proper water balance has not been
maintained.
3.
How do I prevent algae from occurring in my pool?
You
will need to ensure that a) there is an adequate
sanitizer level in your pool (24 PPM)
b) a weekly maintenance dose of algaecide and
c) ensure proper water balance.
4.
How often should I change my filter sand? Is it
possible to clean the sand without removing it
from the filter?
Filter
sand should be changed every 5-6 years if seasonal
cleaning is not occurring. The old filter sand
is scooped out and replaced with clean filter
sand. Pool water clarity problems can often be
caused by old, dirty filter sand. Filter sand
can also be cleaned at the end of each pool season
by adding a filter cleaner to the sand, letting
it soak for 12 hours with the pump off, then backwashing
thoroughly.
5.
What can you tell me about liquid solar blankets?
How effective are they?
This
product is called a "liquid evaporation inhibitor.
A package containing the nontoxic liquid is simply
snipped open and dropped into the pool water.
It releases a liquid which creates an invisible
layer, preventing evaporation, 24 hrs a day. Evaporation
accounts for 90% of heat loss from a pool. These
liquid solar blankets last about I month and are
simply replaced with a new package.
